Studies on Inguinal Granuloma

a distinct condition, affects the lymphatic glands of the groin, is sometimes associated with constitutional symptoms, and is now believed to be due to a filterable virus, the infection being of genital origin. Inguinal granuloma is a separate entity with no constitutional features, the lesion being a granulomatous ulcer about the genitalia or the skin in the neighbourhood. The condition is met with in many parts of the tropics. Thus cases are met with in South America, in Brazil, in British and in Dutch Guiana and in the Southern States of the Union. Scattered foci occur in Australia and Africa. In Asia it is met with in South China, in South India and in Ceylon. In South India the disease is met with more often in the east coast and the eastern districts and is rare in the west coast. The darker races are generally affected. Very few cases have been reported from Upper India and from the Punjab. Europeans and Anglo-Indians are seldom affected in South India. Promiscuity, loose sexual relationship and tribal customs have been attributed as causal factors by de Vogel (1928) in Dutch New Guinea, but this certainly cannot explain the peculiar features of racial incidence in South India.
